Between Heaven and Earth  

In this day and age, as with any time in history, we are faced with preserving this one body we are given. Imagine this;  When we are born we are given the only oxygen we will ever get in a canister, Imagine we have to take this oxygen everywhere we go and protect it with our life or we will suffocate.  Now think of our body in the same manner, this is the only body we know we get in this lifetime, why wouldn’t we protect it with the same vigor?   Many of us go along living our lives accumulating bumps and bruises, emotional and physical pains, stress and scar tissue from repetitive motions, most of which we cannot control.  Our erect posture is weighed down by gravity and environmental stressors that attack us from every angle.  We rarely think to ourselves, this is the only body we have and we must protect and maintain it from harm in every way.  Those of us who do think about our body as a gift, a temple, still may not know how to fully engage in an alternative, natural lifestyle or how to go about life with awareness and prevention in mind.

 

Western medicine here in America tends to look at only specific symptoms rather than whole person experience.  Because of that, we only become aware once we feel something is present, weather that be disease, pain, discomfort or general malaise.   Why not take responsibility for our own health, spiritual, mental and physical.  Why not prevent disease, prevent injury and prevent stress, and in turn save money, time and precious life energy.

 

One might ask, how do we do this.  The answer is simple.  Educate ourselves.  Receive regular massage, get to know ourselves inside and out, be silent, use organic natural products, read labels, know that there are alternatives.  Some of these include Acupuncture, Reiki, Naturopathy, Osteopathy, Massage Therapy, Exercise Physiology, Yoga, Meditation, Chiropractic, just to name a few.

 

We are blessed in this day and age with so many alternatives to Western Health Care.  Gone are the days of going to the walk-in, getting only five minutes with the doctor, who treats only the most obvious symptoms and ignoring the cause of the dis – ease.  Dis – Ease = DISEASE, simple.  If we are uneasy, if we have traumas we have not dealt with, if we are eating foods filled with preservatives and poisons, if we are putting our bodies in harms way spiritually, mentally or physically we are asking for trouble. Accumulating health care debt, living with pain and building stresses that cause cancers, manifest disease and keep us treading water.

Awareness is key and there are a number of Scholars doing research to integrate Western/American Medicine with Eastern/Oriental Whole Body Approach.  Tiffany Fields at The Touch Research Institute in Miami Florida is one of the pioneers leading the way to prove Massage Therapy and other natural alternatives work in areas of prevention, depression, eating disorders, high needs children, elderly, employees, adults and infants.  One study shows…………………………………………………………….

¥ Adults were given a chair massage and control group adults were asked to relax in a chair for 15 minutes, two times a week for five weeks. Results from different measures and analyses demonstrated that frontal delta power increased for both groups, suggesting relaxation; the massage group showed decreased alpha and beta power; the massage group increased in speed and accuracy on math computations, while the control group didn’t change; and at the end of the five week period depression scores were lower for both groups but job stress scores were only for the massage group.
